Pegula/Draper and Collins/Harrison Complete the Mixed Doubles Semifinal Lineup at the US Open
The new mixed doubles format at the US Open is moving quickly. After the pairs Errani/Vavassori and Swiatek/Ruud secured their spots in the semifinals during Tuesday’s qualifying matches, two more duos have joined the semifinal lineup.
First, the pair Pegula/Draper held their ground. As the tournament’s number 1 seeds, the American and the British player confirmed their victory against Raducanu/Alcaraz (4-2, 4-2).
In the quarterfinals, they eliminated the pair Mirra Andreeva/Daniil Medvedev (4-1, 4-1), who had previously knocked out Olga Danilovic and Novak Djokovic. Additionally, the last-minute wildcard entry following Jannik Sinner’s withdrawal, Danielle Collins/Christian Harrison, has been the true surprise of this tournament and will also compete in the mixed doubles semifinals.
In an all-American quarterfinal clash, Collins and Harrison, who had earlier defeated Belinda Bencic and Alexander Zverev in the round of 16, went on to eliminate Taylor Townsend and Ben Shelton (4-1, 5-4).
Thus, the semifinal matchups are now set. Late Wednesday into Thursday, Pegula/Draper will face Swiatek/Ruud, while Collins/Harrison will challenge the defending champions, Errani/Vavassori.
