"Playing with Carlos was very emotional," Nadal reflects on his participation in the Paris Olympics
As a symbolic gesture, Nadal spent one of his final moments as a professional player at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
In a packed Philippe-Chatrier court, the Mallorcan had the chance to compete one last time in a venue he cherished so deeply. First in singles against his eternal rival Djokovic (defeat 6-1, 6-4), then in doubles with his compatriot Alcaraz (defeat in the quarterfinals against the American pair Ram-Krajicek).
"That was the last competition I participated in. After that, I decided my career was over. Before this event, I more or less knew it was coming, but this was somehow the final competition I took part in as a professional athlete. Playing with Carlos as my partner was very emotional, very special, because I was representing my country in my last Olympic Games," he shared in a video released by Laureus.
Officially, Nadal played his last match in the Davis Cup quarterfinals against the Netherlands. Paired in singles against Van de Zandschulp, he lost 6-4, 6-4.
