"Reaching two finals is both very beautiful and very tough," says Anisimova after her US Open defeat
Defeated by Sabalenka (6-3, 7-6) at the US Open, Anisimova suffered her second consecutive loss in a Grand Slam final. While she was outplayed at Wimbledon against Swiatek (6-0, 6-0), this time she pushed her opponent a bit more, especially in the second set.
Once again very emotional after the handshake, she spoke during the awards ceremony and said the following:
"Reaching two finals is both very beautiful and very tough. Congratulations to Aryna, I often have to face you, it's hard. I admire what you are achieving. Thank you to the fans for supporting me over these two weeks. It's been an incredible fortnight, a dream to be in the final. Thank you to the USTA. Thank you to my team, my loved ones, my family. I’ve been almost deaf in one ear for two weeks."
Despite this disappointment, she will be world number 4 once the WTA rankings are updated.
