Rinderknech Gets Revenge on Borges in Cincinnati Debut
Rinderknech (64th) faced Borges (42nd) in his first match in Cincinnati. The two players had already met earlier this year: at Indian Wells last March. That match was won by the Portuguese player (6-1, 5-7, 6-2).
In this second duel, the scenario swung heavily in favor of the Frenchman. In just over an hour of play, the 30-year-old dominated his opponent in straight sets (6-3, 6-3). Efficient on break points (3/5), he also served exceptionally well, winning 85% of points behind his first serve.
Eliminated in his opening match in Toronto, Rinderknech this time succeeded in his debut at the American tournament. In the next round, he will face a tough challenge as he takes on the world No. 13, Ruud.
As for Borges, he seemed to struggle from the very start of the match. After a victory in Canada over Bagnis, he had fallen in the second round to Ruud.
