Rune and Fonseca to Make Their Laver Cup Debut in September
The lineup for the 2025 Laver Cup is gradually being revealed. As San Francisco prepares to host the new edition of this team tournament from September 19 to 21, two new players have been announced by the organizers.
Holger Rune will represent Team Europe, while João Fonseca will play for Team World. Both players will compete in the Laver Cup for the very first time in their careers. The Dane shared his reaction after being selected for the 2025 edition.
"It’s an incredible feeling to be selected for Team Europe in San Francisco this year. I was close to playing the Laver Cup a few years ago, but I got injured and couldn’t participate.
I knew I’d have other opportunities, and I’m looking forward to starting the competition and visiting the city for the first time," he said on the Laver Cup website in recent hours.
Meanwhile, João Fonseca has been one of the biggest revelations in recent months. The 18-year-old Brazilian shared his first thoughts after being chosen to represent Team World.
"I’m thrilled to have been selected to play in the Laver Cup. I’ve watched this competition since I was a kid and always dreamed of playing in it. Being coached by André Agassi is incredible—I’ll give it everything I have," Fonseca stated.
Rune joins Alexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz, who were previously announced for Team Europe. Fonseca will team up with three American players: Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton, and Tommy Paul. Additional players will be announced soon to complete the lineup.
