Rune Criticizes Rome’s Clay Court: "It’s Unplayable"

After defeating Argentina’s Comesana in his first-round match in Rome, Rune had to battle hard to secure the win in three sets (3-6, 6-3, 6-4). Scheduled on the Super Tennis Arena, the Dane complained about the quality of the clay court to Tennisnow.com:
"I found the conditions very tough on this court. It’s a new court, and it was very hard to move around. I think it’s dangerous for the players, but I managed to get through. Maybe I used a bit of unnecessary energy in the first set, but it was really difficult.
This is right before Roland-Garros, and we don’t want to risk getting injured. Honestly, I think it’s unplayable. That’s my opinion. I’m Danish, and in Denmark, early in the season, we really know what an unprepared clay court looks like—trust me."
For a spot in the round of 16, he will face France’s Corentin Moutet. The two players have met twice on the professional tour, with one win each.
