Sinner Dominates Djokovic to Reach His First Wimbledon Final
Just over a month after their semifinal clash at Roland-Garros, Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic met again on the grass of Wimbledon, this time once more in the semifinals.
The world No. 1, far more composed than in Paris, triumphed in straight sets (6-3, 6-3, 6-4) in under two hours against the seven-time champion of the tournament.
The semifinal between Sinner and Djokovic was highly anticipated, but the suspense never materialized in this encounter. Djokovic, 38, was aiming for a seventh consecutive Wimbledon final and a third straight showdown against Carlos Alcaraz. Sinner, meanwhile, was determined to avenge his loss to the Serb in last year’s semifinals.
Calm and collected throughout the match, the Italian left no room for Djokovic. The first set set the tone, with Sinner winning 100% of points behind his first serve and conceding only two minor points on his service games. Too strong in both play and rallies, Sinner dominated the second set in similar fashion before hitting a minor rough patch in the third.
Trailing 3-0, he saved a double-break point before regaining control. By winning six of the last seven games, he secured his first-ever Wimbledon final berth.
Djokovic, completely outplayed in this match, was thus halted in the semifinals of a Grand Slam for the third consecutive time this season.
As at Roland-Garros, the world No. 1 and No. 2, Sinner and Alcaraz, will face off in the final. After their 5-hour, 30-minute battle on the Parisian clay, another thrilling spectacle awaits on Sunday at the All England Club.
