Svitolina, the only player to reach the quarterfinals of the last three WTA 1000 events
Since her title in Rouen last April, Svitolina has been delivering strong performances on the women's tour. A semifinalist in Madrid, quarterfinalist in Rome and at Roland-Garros, the Ukrainian has stood out on European clay.
Though less successful on grass (third round at Wimbledon), she has started the Montreal tournament strongly, convincingly defeating Rakhimova (7-5, 6-2), Kalinskaya (6-1, 6-1), and Anisimova (6-4, 6-1). In good physical shape, the 30-year-old player seems to have put in a lot of work ahead of this 2025 season.
This is further evidenced by a statistic shared by journalist Mario Boccardi. The world No. 13 is the only WTA player to have reached the quarterfinals of the last three WTA 1000 tournaments (Madrid, Rome, Canada). Not to mention her quarterfinal runs at the Australian Open, Roland-Garros, and Indian Wells.
For a spot in the semifinals, she will face Japan's four-time Grand Slam champion Osaka (ranked 49th). Svitolina has already surpassed her performance from the previous edition, where she lost to Kostyuk in the second round (6-2, 2-6, 6-2).
