Swiatek Officially Withdraws from BJK Cup Qualifiers with Poland

It was a decision that an entire country was waiting for. Initially left out of the Polish team selected for the Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers, world No. 2 Iga Swiatek confirmed in recent hours that she will not participate in her country’s two matches, held at home—more precisely in Radom—against Ukraine and Switzerland.
On Instagram, Swiatek, who is expected to compete at the WTA 500 in Stuttgart just days after these two BJK Cup matches, posted a message confirming the news.
"I’ve made a difficult decision. I know this isn’t the news fans, especially Polish fans, were hoping for, but I still believe it’s the best choice for me. I won’t be playing the BJK Cup qualifiers in Radom.
"I always represent my country with pride. I played everything possible for Poland last year. I’m very proud of the team’s historic achievements, reaching the BJK Cup semifinals and the last two United Cup finals.
"Right now, I need to find more balance, focus on myself and my training. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the girls and the whole team," Swiatek wrote on social media.
Poland will now be represented by Magda Linette, Magdalena Frech, Maja Chwalinska, and Katarzyna Kawa in the upcoming matches against Ukraine (featuring Svitolina and Kostyuk) and Switzerland (led by Bencic), scheduled for April 10–12.
