That day, I lost my mind," admits Tsitsipas about his heated match against Kyrgios at Wimbledon in 2022
In 2022, Nick Kyrgios and Stefanos Tsitsipas faced off in the third round of Wimbledon.
The tightly contested match ended with a four-set victory for Kyrgios (6-7, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6). The Australian managed to rattle Tsitsipas with his flashes of brilliance and constant provocations.
The Greek narrowly avoided disqualification after hitting a ball into the crowd following the loss of the second set. Three years later, he reflected on that fiery match in an interview with Tennis365:
"It was a tough match that made me react way more than I ever expected. That day, I lost my mind. I had never seen myself like that on a court before. My nose was blocked, and it was irritating me. I also felt a bit feverish, so what was happening on the other side of the court made me react even more and pushed me over the edge.
I remember completely losing my cool. But I took a lesson from it: I should never allow someone to control me like that. He was in control of my emotions. I learned and realized so much that day. And that’s not how you should behave on a tennis court.
