Throwback: The Day Federer and Agassi Played on the Highest Tennis Court in the World
Twenty years ago, the Burj Al Arab in Dubai set a world record for the highest tennis court in the world. A feat that still stands today.
The circular helipad of the Dubai hotel had been transformed into a grass-covered playing surface. Located 213 meters above the ground, the court covered approximately 415 square meters (668 square meters for a standard court).
Just days after the record was set, Roger Federer and Andre Agassi played a friendly match on the helipad to promote the Dubai Tennis Championships.
"The view here is absolutely incredible. I’ve been to Dubai several times and have stayed at the Burj Al Arab before. It was an absolute treat. Playing tennis with Andre at the top of such an amazing hotel, overlooking all of Dubai, was absolutely spectacular," Federer said in 2005, as reported by The National.
They weren’t the only stars to take part in an event on the helipad. Legend Tiger Woods also had fun hitting golf balls there in 2004.
