Toronto Masters 1000: 1 out of 5 for the French, Pospisil Officially Retired

The Toronto Masters 1000 kicked off this Sunday for the main draw players. A very dull day for the French competitors.
Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard was the only Frenchman to successfully advance, defeating Shintaro Mochizuki with a score of 6-4, 6-2. He will face Holger Rune in the next round.
Five other French players were also in action. Gaël Monfils fell in a third-set tiebreak against Tomás Barrios Vera.
Pierre-Hugues Herbert lost to Tomás Martín Etcheverry, dropping the decisive set 7-5.
Valentin Royer was surprised by Nicolas Arseneault, an 18-year-old Canadian ranked 636th in the world, with a score of 6-3, 7-6.
Ugo Blanchet also lost in a decisive tiebreak against Roman Safiullin. Quentin Halys, despite winning the first set, fell 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 to Miomir Kecmanovic.
As for Vasek Pospisil, he is now officially retired after his 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 loss to Facundo Bagnis.
Notably, Juncheng Shang made his return after not playing since the Australian Open in January. Unfortunately for him, the Chinese player lost to James Duckworth and once again experienced foot pain.
