Tsitsipas doesn't want to get ahead of himself: "I like to concentrate on my matches regardless of everything else".
Stefanos Tsitsipas is one of the clay-court stars of the season. After winning the title in Monte-Carlo, he arrives in Paris full of ambition. After a strong first round against a very good Fucsovics (7-6, 6-4, 6-1), he avoided the Altmaier trap in the second round (6-3, 6-2, 6-7, 6-4). Qualified for the third round, the Greek is becoming more and more enlightened.
Aware that this visibility can cause him harm, the world No. 9 is determined to stay focused on each match and not project himself too far. Speaking to the press, he explained: "I like to concentrate on my matches independently of everything else, and not look at who I might meet in the quarter-finals or semi-finals. What I've learnt from this is that sometimes my imagination runs wild.
Sometimes it's free and wandering, and I'm already imagining myself playing against a player, when I should be concentrating on the present and thinking about how to beat the opponent I'm playing against. So I want to avoid letting my mind be too free and too creative." (comments relayed by L'Equipe).
