Tsitsipas withdraws from the Davis Cup, Greece almost doomed!
Greece will have to do without Stefanos Tsitsipas next week.
Faced with Novak Djokovic's Serbia in the play-off, the Greeks, deprived of their flag-bearer, will have to pull off quite a feat to reach the elite.
Visibly disappointed, Tsitsipas explained that his back was still suffering from the injury he sustained at the US Open: "The voice of my heart advised me to support the national team once again.
However, the voice of my body imperiously forbids me to take part in the Davis Cup match against Serbia.
A back injury contracted during my participation in the US Open is forcing me to follow a special rehabilitation program in order to return to the courts as soon as possible.
It is with great regret that I announce my decision not to take part in next week's competition in Belgrade.
I wish our national team the best of luck in their tough encounter with Serbia.
As for me, I'll do my best so that, at the national team's next obligation, I can once again play with the national flag on my chest."
