Video – The Ovation Received by Venus Williams for Her Doubles Return in Washington
Paired with her compatriot Hailey Baptiste, Venus Williams began her Washington tournament with a doubles match. Facing the duo Bouchard/Ngounoue, they showed no hesitation in advancing to the next round (6-3, 6-1) and now await the result of the match between Bucsa-Melichar-Martinez and Townsend-Zhang.
Highly anticipated, the seven-time Grand Slam champion received a warm ovation as she stepped onto the court for the first time in 16 months. Stars were also in attendance to witness the prodigy’s return, including basketball player Kevin Durant.
Notably, at 45 years old, she is also entered in the singles draw and will begin her campaign against Peyton Stearns in the first round. The match is scheduled for Tuesday, as the final fixture on the center court (Stadium).
