Wawrinka Secures a Semifinal Spot in Aix-en-Provence

Wawrinka defeated Basavareddy (7-6, 6-3) to advance to the semifinals in Aix-en-Provence. He had previously eliminated Popyrin in the previous round.

After a tightly contested first set, the Swiss battled to save a set point and clinched the tie-break (10-8). Strong on his first serve (80% of points won), the three-time Grand Slam champion fired 6 aces throughout the match and converted a third of his break opportunities (2/6). The match lasted nearly two hours (1h55).

At 40 years old, the Swiss defeated the world No. 100 and returned to the ATP top 150 (141). In Challenger events this year, he notably reached the quarterfinals in Naples last March.

He will face the winner of the match between Gojo and Vacherot.
