"When I'm in form, I always believe I can beat Alcaraz and Sinner," says Djokovic ahead of the US Open semifinals
In the US Open semifinal, Djokovic will have his work cut out for him as he faces world number 2, Alcaraz. Even though the most recent duels between the two players have gone in favor of the Serb (Australia 2025 and Olympics 2024), the task looks difficult given how well the Spaniard seems to be playing.
In the press zone before this highly anticipated clash, the 24-time Grand Slam legend shared his thoughts. His comments were relayed by the X account Olly Tennis:
"When I'm in form and able to play my best tennis, I always believe I can beat Alcaraz and Sinner. The most crucial thing is that I have to put in a significant effort, work very hard, and push my body to its limits to have the opportunity to face them.
It's a somewhat unfair battle because their youth and current superiority allow them to arrive in peak form, while I'm already running on half a tank. That's biology. One could say it's beneficial for me to play the semifinals with Carlos instead of Jannik—at least, that's what recent results suggest.
In any case, in Australia and London, I arrived injured in the semifinals, and now I'm not. Every match is a different story. I know Alcaraz is the favorite; he's playing at an impressive level, but I hope to raise my game. These matches are what keep me competing—it's exciting to have the opportunity to beat the best players right now."
The match will take place in the first session at Arthur Ashe Stadium starting at 9 PM (French time).
