Wilander full of admiration for Eala: "We're going to love watching her progress and become a great player"
Alexandra Eala made a name for herself in Miami after reaching the semifinals of the tournament while ranked outside the Top 100.
By defeating three Grand Slam champions along the way (Ostapenko, Keys, and Swiatek), the Filipina undoubtedly showcased her talent, as Mats Wilander highlighted for TNT Sports:
"We're talking about someone who has hands gifted by God. She understands the game as well as any other player on the tour. Her talent flows from her fingers and hands.
In women's tennis, it's fantastic to have someone who bursts onto the scene and does things that Sabalenka or Swiatek can't do. They excel in other areas.
But suddenly, we have a player who can play tennis that feels mystical to us. Like, 'How do you even do that? How do you understand tennis like that? How did you hit those shots?'
To me, Eala is a true breath of fresh air. She won’t fade away because she’s too smart and too talented. She learned how to win at the age of 12, so that won’t be an issue. We're going to love watching her progress and become a great player. I believe she will become one."
