WTA 1000 Montreal: Swiatek Ousted by Tauson, Svitolina Defeats Anisimova

Iga Swiatek faced Clara Tauson on Sunday evening for a spot in the quarterfinals of Montreal. The Polish player was on a streak of nine consecutive wins but ultimately exited the tournament earlier than expected.
She fell with a score of 7-6, 6-3, despite having the chance to reclaim the world No. 2 ranking with a title in Canada.
As for Tauson, she managed to raise her level of play, just as she did against Aryna Sabalenka when she defeated her in Dubai last February. She will face Madison Keys in the next round.
In the other match of the night, Elina Svitolina took on Amanda Anisimova. In what was expected to be a relatively close contest, the Ukrainian triumphed with a score of 6-4, 6-1.
She will play against Naomi Osaka for a spot in the semifinals.
