WTA 250 Prague: Jeanjean and Ponchet, the Only French Players in the Draw, Advance to the Round of 16

This week, some WTA players are in the Czech Republic, specifically in Prague. Two French players are competing and have successfully navigated their opening matches.
Léolia Jeanjean, who recently learned she would enter the main draw of the US Open following Zheng Qinwen's withdrawal, defeated world No. 100 Nuria Parrizas Diaz.
While the 29-year-old was in control of the match, she benefited from the Spaniard's retirement (6-3, 2-0 ret.) to advance to the round of 16. At this stage, she will face world No. 67 Ann Li.
The American, for her part, eliminated Astra Sharma (7-6, 6-3). Another French player in action on Tuesday was Jessika Ponchet. The world No. 162 had a tougher match against Nina Stojanovic in a duel between lucky losers after losing in the second round of qualifying.
Defeated by Gasanova last weekend, Ponchet was given a second chance and made the most of it. Against the Serbian, the 28-year-old dropped the first set before finding her rhythm, ultimately turning the match around (4-6, 7-5, 6-1). For a spot in the quarterfinals, she will face 21-year-old Barbora Palicova, who earlier defeated Priscilla Hon (6-2, 3-6, 6-3).
