WTA Brisbane: ten seeds already eliminated from the tournament!
The Brisbane tournament, the first WTA 500 of 2025, was full of surprises in the 2nd round.
While Aryna Sabalenka was already the favorite to win the title, the Belarusian, who had qualified for the Round of 16, saw her section of the draw become a little clearer.
Ostapenko, beaten by Bouzkova, and Badosa, who came out on top against Avanesyan, were the tournament's No.7 and No.4 seeds.
The world No.1 will still have to be wary of the presence of Victoria Azarenka, Mirra Andreeva and Ons Jabeur, still in contention in the top half of the draw.
In the lower section, No.2 seed Emma Navarro surprisingly fell to wild-card Kimberly Birell in two sets (7-5, 7-5).
Kalinskaya, Shnaider, Kostyuk, Samsonova and Yastremska, all seeded players, also lost in the 2nd round.
With the round of 16 to be played on Thursday, only six of the sixteen seeds remain in the draw.
