In the latest episode of the podcast he hosts with his brother Mischa, Alexander Zverev opened up about his approach to social media and the hate messages he can receive after a loss.
The world No. 2 revealed one of the habits he adopts during every major tournament: "Honestly, if you lose a match and people have bet on you, social media can become a real outlet for frustration.
During the most important tournaments, meaning the Grand Slams, my smartphone is turned off. No one can contact me.
The people closest to me are with me anyway: my family, my coaches, and my girlfriend.
The more you read, the more you doubt yourself. Like: 'Maybe my forehand and serve aren't good enough, or Carlos Alcaraz is just too strong for me.'
If I watch tennis on TV, I mute the sound. I try to stay as far away as possible from external distractions."
