STANIMAL!!! So glad he’s back. If this were a slam, I think we all know who we would pick, however, this is only best of 3. Djokovic in straights.

It's remarkable that Stan beat Novak four out of the five last meetings in slams. Stan knows very well how to beat Novak but I agree that it is unlikely that it will happen today, but the odds are not too high imo. Would be very sweet if Stan could pull through this one, I've really missed him on tour.

For me, i think the reason stan beats djoko at slams its that the matchup allows stan to really get hot and in the groove. Djoko hits lots of flat consistent balls and i think as a match goes on stan's backhands gets right in the sweet spot.

I don't think over 3 set stan gets the time to get going as well.

That said i think stan has hardly any chance today due to him being on a massive comeback trail. He is rebuilding himself, rather than coming back.

Its a great matchup to watch though

You got that right, Pritham...Stan just needs 1st round loser's money for smokes n beer is all. ALL the wash-ups and has-beens do that. Most people do not realize losers get big-ass checks even on first round. So they enter a tournament knowing full well they are just bums who can't play tennis anymore. Just like locusts riding on the coat tails of REAL tennis players.

It would make a great headline if Stan knocks out Novak, but unlikely.

Novak and Rafa way too dominant at Rome. Both should end up in one SF.

So let's see... Djokovic was very emotional coming into the FO15 (career slam) final just like he was heading to USO21(calendar slam). That got to his mind and obviously stan played incredible too. In USO16 final, I honestly believe the draw helped nole to get to the final. The mental state he was in, completely lost his motivation to play, the match result was obvious that stan would take it! I definitely doubt stan could have defeated nole of any other USO form in which he made QF+
