Rafa is always going with an "injury excuse" before a match with Nole, so if he loses, it's because of an injury.
He was fine playing doubles, and he will be fine playing this match, and he will also be fine playing Nole, but, you know, just in case, say that you are injured

After novak’s fake surgery and fake injury shenanigans which got badly exposed at wimbledon, what excuse will he give this time after getting beaten by the king?

If he knows that he has a good chance of winning (RG for example), he says just in case he is injured, so if he loses that match (RG 21) it's a good excuse. If he knows that he will lose against Nole (Wimbledon 21 for example) he pulls out before the match to prevent ruining H2H

Does anyone in their right mind really think any of these guys would pull out of a match to protect a H2H?

Don't forget they are playing on clay where Djokovic will try to avoid Nadal in any conditions. Those commenting on Nadal's injury look how many matches he has played in the past 2 yrs n he iis due to retire this year. His H2H record agnst Djoker is 30-29 which is not bad by any standard.

If Nole is avoiding rafa on clay, and Rafa was not avoiding Nole on grass/hard they would have played much more matches on GS on hard than on clay
