Good win for Grigor. I'm happy for him. Hope he can continue his run. The heat is brutal. Med was completely checked out. Did not play his usual self.

Dimitrov takes a set at least

Because it is an exhibition with a total lack of competition, players have to sign a paper to prove that they will play seriously, it is the pinnacle of being a joke event

Nobody take the stats from exhibitions in count on the tour, literally nobody
1
Ace88
Sure the stats don't count from exhibition games but the players were not playing it like an exhibition. In their minds it was still competitive so it counts in that regard.
1
Julien R.
I can assure that they don't consider a second this as a competition, they will not say it before leaving the circuit because they signed a contract to be a part of the event.

Only delusional people thinks that players consider this something else than an exib, just take a look at the different exib (any format), competitions, and then compare the players, look at their faces, the atmosphere, the fact that they are coachless, they prepare like they will NEVER do it for a competition, the coverage, the medias, the time between matches, and let's be honest, the fact that they prepared x times for the event, the points they will get from it and what it means for their season, for them, and their staff (inexistant during Laver cup).
Honestly I like the idea of exhibitions, and the fact that we experience something else with our sport, but laver cup is a bs exib, and the level of competition is a joke on so many levels.

Julien R.
@ace88 so if they win they are serious, and if they are serious then it is a competition and we have to consider it

Stupid logic

Yes Karthik your right

Ace88
I said it their mindset is competitive doesn't matter if it's an exhibition or not. I understand English might not be your first language.
1
Julien R.
@ace88
English isn't my first language but I know how to read and understand you point, and it is wrong.
Tennis on the tour is all about environment, not about having a "competition bone", but about your preparation, your staff and your mental state, it is all that matters. It is not you as a player, but a whole.
I talked about coaches as a part of the environment of a player during a competition, do you know that most players on the tour arent capable to perform without their coach, it is a thing even if that's doesn't suit your logic.

You are the only one talking about "being serious", I talk about being on a competition, laver cup isn't a competition it is simple as that, you said "in their minds it was still competitive" as if it was spontaneous, but it isn't, parameters aren't here to make it competitive.

When you talk about sets, if you think result means something take a look at what means "result oriented".

If competing on the tour (future, itf and chall included, I mean professional circuit overall not only WTA/ATP) was about "playing not to lose" then everyone could be a top players, and any match would be a competition, I will make a ace88exhibition, you can choose the players I will make some contracts ready for the people over here 😂😂😂
An exhibition is meaningless for most players ESPECIALLY TOP PLAYERS, end of the debate, you need to build history to make it something prestigious, if not it is an exhibition.

Wow! Crazy comeback! Med must have had a meltdown as he struggled to win points let alone games. Kudos to Grigor for using his experience and hanging in there 👏

If Djokovic wasn’t no.1 this would literally be the state of men’s tennis atm. Think about that for a second

Dimitrov has looked pretty solid in the first two rounds.
Julien R.
When Daniil got a good serve, 2nd and third ball are so good
Grigor get some points but honestly, Daniil seems way ahead tennis-wise
Julien R.
Grigor finally doin something, thanks to Daniil getting frustrated
Snoopy 10
Also, Daniil has only dropped one set in his last ten matches played.
Julien R.
Please don't count Laver cup, please don't haha
Julien R.
Poor Grigor
Snoopy 10
Why not 🤔
Julien R.
Grigor took his chance, let's see if he can achieve something, if it goes to TB in the first set it is already a perf from my pov.
I wonder if he got a chance to make something during a TB against Daniil.
