Safina discusses Sabalenka's offer to coach her in 2019

Former world No. 1 Dinara Safina has revealed that Aryna Sabalenka approached her in 2019 about a partnership, which came to nothing.

The Belarusian had parted ways with her coach at the time, Dmitry Tursunov, in August 2019. Following this separation, she was looking for a replacement.

Safina turned down the sudden offer, as she didn't feel ready: "It was for full cooperation.

Her agent called me and told me about this opportunity, but she had to fly out immediately to the US Open and get ready for it.

I said I couldn't do that. But I understand Aryna, because I behaved the same way when I was a player. I also said "I need a coach tomorrow!""
